We are proud of our reputation for having some of the brightest individuals that hold corporate, educational, and military experience. That experience translates into strong leadership which is vital to economic development in our region.

 

Executive Director – Chief Executive Officer

Dave Witt

Dave Witt served 7 years in the US Army as a combat medic, deploying in 2005, receiving an honorable discharge in 2010.
While serving in the Army, Dave began his film career by making amateur short films. In 2008, Dave acted in TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, as a flight medic along with Shia Lebouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson.

Dave was a 2010 Outstanding Graduate of Dona Ana Community College, receiving his Associate in General Studies. In 2011, Dave started the digital film program (Creative Media Institute) at New Mexico State University focusing in Producing and Directing. Graduating in 2013, Dave received a Bachelor of Creative Media with Honors.

Shown at the 2016 Festival de Cannes, BUFFALO, was co-produced by Dave Witt. In 2016, produced by Dave Witt, GOIN’ FOR PICTURE is the winner of the Las Cruces International Film Festival’s TV Pilot Contest. Dave is the writer, director, and producer of DOC, screened at the GI Film Festival nicknamed “The Sundance for the Troops”, and is the winner of multiple awards. Dave produced and edited the feature film THE HEART OUTRIGHT, currently distributed, written by the Academy Award nominated writer of CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD, Mark Medoff.

Dave is formerly the Artistic Director of the Las Cruces International Film Festival. Raising the bar of films submitted to triple the previous year’s submissions. Currently, Dave is the CEO/ Executive Director of the Borderlands Film Festival, a multi-city/cultural event, and owner of Witt Vision Entertainment a full service production company located in Las Cruces, NM.

Managing Partner – Chief Operations Officer

Dr. Michael Evans

Michael is currently the Chief Operating and Financial Officer for Borderlands Film Festival. Michael’s responsibilities include grant writing, sponsorship, community outreach, festival logistics, and overseeing the financials. Previously the Marketing and Communication Director for the Las Cruces International Film Festival, Michael was also responsible for operations and sponsorship. Michael earned his BA at San Jose State University in San Jose, CA, in 1988, and his MS in Theoretical Physics from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara in 2010. In 2012, Michael received his Theologiae Doctoris from the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara. He also served the Office of Naval Intelligence, with an emphasis on Behavioral Analysis, Scientific and Technical Intelligence.

Michael has lived in Las Cruces for nine years and credits the cultural diversity and natural beauty for drawing him in. “There are many places in the world that take your breath away, but Las Cruces has a grounding affect that allows me to focus.” Bringing people together in a co-creative environment coupled with a strong sense of civic pride is what drives Michael’s passion and enthusiasm for the work he does locally. Michael continues funded research at CERN on projects that involve string theory. He embodies equality and friendship and is willing to take on a challenge simply to feel good in the enthusiasm in building anything with amazing people.

Managing Partner – Chief Strategy Officer

David Salcido

A life-long cinephile, David Salcido has worked in and around the film industry pretty much his entire adult life. From movie reviews and articles in dozens of industry publications — including Entertainment Weekly, Movieline, Pop Smear and Video Business — to over 15 years as a spin doctor in the employ of such notable organizations as Paramount Pictures, Full Moon Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment, he’s turned his affection into a full-time pursuit. Now owner/operator of the public relations venture Unbridled Media, proprietor of his own film company Muffin Mix Productions and a full-time partner with distribution team Borderlands Media, he continues to follow his passions writing and directing short and feature-length films, then passing them off as entertainment. He is, in other words, living the dream.

Dr. Christa Slaton

Christa Slaton is currently Professor of Government at New Mexico State University. She received her BS degree from University of Tennessee at Nashville and her MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The author of three books and several book chapters and articles, she is also a trained mediator and arbitrator. Her research has focused on using information and communication technology to enhance democracy and increase transparency. She has given keynote addresses and facilitated international conferences in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Greece, and the Czech Republic and conducted nationwide mediation training in the Philippines.

Her administrative experience includes serving as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University (2010-2016); Associate Dean for Educational Affairs and Graduate Studies at Auburn University (2007-2010); and Director of the Elections Administration Program at Auburn (2002-2010). Currently, she serves as the President of the Las Cruces Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Finance Chair for AAUW-New Mexico.

Christa is the recipient of several teaching awards, including Charter Inductee into Auburn University College of Liberal Arts Academy of Teaching and Outstanding Teachers. Her third book received the Best Book Award from the Ecological and Transformational Politics Section, of the American Political Science Association. Throughout her career she has been devoted to establishing mutually beneficial relationships between the university and the community. This activity has been recognized through multiple awards, including: Praxis Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Role of Scholar and Activist, Transformational Politics Section, American Political Science Association 1996; University Award for Excellence in Faculty Outreach, Auburn University, 2007; and the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion to recognize outstanding service and dedication to furthering NASS’s mission: fair and honest elections, civic education and service to state government (2009).

As Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University, Christa was devoted to bringing the university and community together. She oversaw the construction of the ASNMSU Center for the Arts; advocated for a new Art Building—which is currently under construction; and provided substantial support for the first Las Cruces International Film Festival. Her college was also the host of the annual J. Paul Taylor Social Justice Symposium.

Lyndsey Kalson

Lyndsey was raised right here in Southern New Mexico thanks to Holloman Air Force Base and the 49th Fighter Wing, she then went on to study Journalism and Mass communications at New Mexico State University. She is a New Mexico Broadcast Association multiple award winning Program/Music/Promotions Director for KXPZ in Las Cruces, New Mexico during her daytime hours, with over 14 years of experience on the air and behind the scenes. Local music, local film, and taking local style and bringing it to a national arena are just some of her passions. She has an inherent talent for press coordination, live interview segments, voice over acting and production, as well as creative strategy. In her free time she is an avid reader, independent film junkie, and every now and then she finds herself lucky enough to have been involved on set with the NMSU CMI Department Dand PRC Productions.

Dennis D’Amico

Dennis D’Amico merges the creative process with the nuts and bolts of producing. With over 40 years of experience in various music, film and Broadway productions, D’Amico is a polished entertainment veteran, musician, noted music producer and celebrated composer whose work resonates on an international level.

D’Amico produced the World Premiere of Sir Paul McCartney’s classical composition NOVA at the world renowned Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires to five star reviews and three sold-out performances.

Produced myriad of high profile recording projects with artists such as Sir Paul McCartney, Kenny Loggins, Ricky Skaggs, Timothy B. Schmit, , Danny Aiello, Roger Kellaway, Tom Scott, Kenny Rankin, , Chevy Chase…and many more.

Film credits include Out of Africa, 9 ½ Weeks, Santa Clause the Movie. Currently Producer- Mira Sorvino and Jason Patric’s new film The Last Dance.

Co Authoring a new book with NY Times Bestselling author Jerome Corsi about the amazing relationship between Marilyn Monroe and her best friend and best kept secret Lena Pepitone. A new Broadway play is slated for 2018 based on D’Amico’s interviews with Pepitone.  THE GARLAND APPEAL- Exec Director of the USA. – Charity commemorating the life of Linda McCartney, supported by Sir Paul McCartney. Exec in charge of all operations in the USA. Built the charity from the ground up.
